Midwest Auto - Business of the Year 2008
The Vermilion Chamber of Commerce handed out awards to local businesses at their luncheon held at the School of Hope. The businesses were recognized in four categories, Spirit of Vermilion, Rookie Business of the Year, Employee of the Year and Business of the Year.
Certificates from the Mayor, Bruce Marriot as well as one from Leon Benoit were given to the business of the year.
The Spirit of Vermilion went to Sammy’s restaurant and was accepted by Nick Salame and Kevin Chehade for their commitment to Vermilion and for all they do within the community.
“I came and took part ownership about four months ago. It was a great feeling to know that Sammy’s has been recognized for the Spirit of Vermilion. I am going to work hard and keep it this way and hopefully make it better,” said Salame.

Seated on stage federal candidates for the Vegreville-Wainwright constituency met to debate the issues at Lakeland College on Friday night.
Federal candidates for the Vegreville-Wainwright constituency came face to face on Friday in an all-candidates forum.
Rocky Wallbum was the master of ceremonies for the event, which had about 50 people in attendance to hear what the candidates had to say about various issues.
Incumbent Leon Benoit of the Conservative party led the opening remarks by the candidates telling the audience that his party had done what it had said it would do. Such as getting tough on crime, lowering the GST and protecting the sovereignty of the county.
Liberal candidate Adam Campbell sees the economy as the main issue of the day but also said the Liberals would bring Canada into a new ‘green’ era.
“If we think we are going to be sheltered from what is happening to the economy in the United States we are mistaken. They are forecasting 2.5 million unemployed in the US next year, which means the US, won’t be using as much energy which will impact Canada. We have to be aware,” said Campbell who immigrated to Canada 1996.
